"THE PATH OF ENDARKENMENT"
"I MEET YOU somewhere on the Path of Endarkenment, though I know not where. It used to be called "The Path of Enlightenment," but people found that it seemed to get darker the further they went along it. So they changed the name. Oh, by the way, my name is Vere. Percy Vere.
Most people still live in the Town of Awright, which used to be called the "Town of All Right", since that was the way its people greeted each other. In the olden days they would say, "Are you all right?", and wait patiently to hear about your rheumatism and your giro that didn't come. But the "are you" was dropped, and eventually the question mark was dropped as well, so that everyone just said "Awright!" instead of "Hello!", and it began to sound like "You are all right, aren't you?", more like an order than a question, more like "You better be Awright if you want to be one of us". So it became a kind of a password, a clan name. "I'm Awright, you're Awright".
This is Percy Vere. I met her one day while walking through the Occupy London protest camp at St Pauls. She was trying to have a civil conversation with the guy in the background who happened to be insisting that percy would be going to hell for her sins, on the other hand, the dude was pretty much convinced we'd all be going to hell for our sins and our greed and pretty much let the whole of St Pauls know by way of MegaPhone.
At first Percy didnt want to pose in front of the camera but eventually came round to it, on the proviso that i make a donation of 50 pence. i didnt have 50 pence so i gave her a fiver instead and so, a mini photo shoot started!
She was quite interested in the photos i was taking, and asked me to make sure that the lighting was right, how comes i didnt use a light meter, did i use RAW and oh, "what the hell are you going to do with the pictures anyway". it made me wonder what kind of life Percy used to live. It was during our session that she told me she had written a book and asked if i wanted a read, of course i said yes, if only to be polite at the time, but having started it im really glad that i did
The text above is taken from Percy's book, called "Journey to myself." which attempts to describes the actual emotional nature of ordinary human beings, and how this emotional nature is deliberately completely misrepresented by society as a whole. Society then uses this misrepresentation to trick us, and to systematically rob us of our true emotional nature. Quite deep huh? kida but also quite apt. He emailed me a copy to read, and then emailed me again to ask if id received it, yet again to say it was rude to receive something and not acknowledge that it had been received. and one last time for good measure to tell me that it is good grace to comment on what was received. Im still reading Percy, lil bit ore than half way through, but i'll get to the end soon enough!
Im not sure why Percy was at the camp, i never really got to ask, however she did mention that she lives in Clapham! i will get Percy's real story one day, im sure its going to be a colorful as her dress sense and when i do, i promise to share it with you.
